antoine-roquentin:

1933 - America recognizes the dictatorship of Saudi Arabia, and within a decade starts supplying it with weapons.

1948 - America recognizes and offers support to the newly declared nation of Israel, which had just butchered 15,000 Palestinians and forced 700,000 out of their homes.

1949 - America supports a coup in Syria, bringing Army Chief of Staff Husni Al-Zaim to power over an elected government, who quickly signed a cease-fire with Israel and made major concessions to America over an oil-pipeline.

1953 - America overthrows the elected government of Iran, which was attempting to nationalize its oil production, and replaces it with the dictatorial Shah, whose police state would be referred to by Amnesty International as the most brutal on the planet. Its SAVAK secret police are trained in the newest and most effective torture techniques by the CIA and Mossad.

1957 - An attempted coup by America in Syria fails, while the use of American marines to keep a Maronite Christian as president in Lebanon is successful.

1950s - American efforts to assassinate Nasser by supplying the right wing radical Muslim Brotherhood with arms and weaponry repeatedly fail, causing the imprisonment of many of its members. One of these was Sayid Qutb, the man who quite literally wrote the book on “Jihadi” ideology.

1960 - America supports the first of four major military coups in Turkey.

1961 - America supports a military coup against the government of France in an effort to prevent the end of the Algerian War of Independence, which has already slaughtered a million Algerians. The coup fails and the war soon comes to a close.

1962-1970 - America supplies the Saudi-supported dictatorial Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen in a proxy war in Yemen that kills hundreds of thousands.

1963 - America supports a coup that leads to the overthrow of the Communist government of Iraq in favor of Saddam Hussein, whose bloody purge kills thousands and whose dictatorship will later murder hundreds of thousands.

1967 - After Israel’s defeat of Arab Nationalist forces under Nasser, America undertakes to equip the entire Israeli army, allowing their occupation force to kill tens of thousands with impunity.

1970 - American support for the government of Jordan against the Arab Nationalist PLO kills tens of thousands while solidifying America’s alliance with reactionary monarchies and sometimes right wing Islamic radicals against democracy and nationalism in the Middle East.

1971 - America supports a second military coup in Turkey, supposedly against left wing terrorism despite right wing violence making up the majority in the country at the time. Repression against Kurds is also stepped up.

1960s and 70s - Repeated Israeli air and land raids on neighboring countries spark no diplomatic crisis over lack of respect for borders, as American cover at the UN prevents any sort of serious punishment over these violations of international law that kill thousands.

1973 - The Yom Kippur War, sparked by the Israeli rejection of Egypt’s 1971 ceasefire offer, ends after America air-drops emergency arms to its client.

1970s - Thousands die in over 5000 terrorist attacks in Turkey between rival political groups, 3300 of which are carried out by American-armed Fascist forces.

1977 - America supports the overthrow of the elected government of Pakistan in favor of military dictator and Islamic extremist Zia-Ul-Haq. His repressive government becomes one of the largest supporters of right wing Sharia Law in the region.

1978 - Israeli invades Lebanon in order to provide a safe haven for its Fascist Lebanese Forces client to carry out attacks on PLO targets. Much of this support comes from American arms and funding. A ceasefire is signed between Israel and Egypt, making the latter yet another American client dictatorship.

1979 - America’s police state in Iran falls, and quick reprisals are carried out by American intelligence against the popular movement. To this day, America feels profoundly threatened by the loss of this once-great client and refuses to bargain seriously with the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the intense desire of the latter to get in America’s good books.

1980 - With American support, Iraq invades Iran. America quickly removes Iraq from its list of state sponsors of terrorism in order to supply it with chemical weapons that would later be used to kill hundreds of thousands. American arms ensure Iraq can continue fighting for the next eight years, and the war ends up killing millions.

1980 - Another Turkish military coup, with American support. Repression of Kurds increases yet again, with tens of thousands dying in a “dirty war”.

1980s - American support for radical Islamic extremists in Afghanistan, mostly large landowners and refugees displaced by the Soviet invasion, leads to a war in which hundreds of thousands die.

1982 - An Israeli invasion of Lebanon reaches its apex in the shelling of West Beirut, which kills 20,000, and the Sabra and Shatila Massacre, where 3500 Palestinian civilians are massacred by Israeli-protected Lebanese Forces. An American invasion of Lebanon under the pretext of a multinational troop agreement is used to pressure the President of Lebanon into accepting the presence of Israeli forces in the country.

1986 - At least 15 Libyan civilians are killed in an American bombing of Libya, and 35 military personnel are killed in a battle in the Gulf of Sidra. The bombing is in reprisal for terrorism supposedly committed by Abu Nidal supported by Libya, despite Nidal not accepting Libyan aid until later in the year.

1987-93 - First Intifada, under which Israel kills 2000 Palestinians with American support.

1988 - America shoots down an Iranian civilian airliner under the pretext of the Iran-Iraq War, killing 290. In response, George H.W. Bush claimed “I’ll never apologize for the United States of America. Ever. I don’t care what the facts are.”

1991 - Acting on what he thought was an American green light, Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait, drawing the ire of Saudi Arabia and America. A multinational force drives the nation out of the emirate with heavy casualties. American promises of support for Shi’ite and Kurdish uprisings, however, go unfulfilled, and Saddam’s repression is swift and violent, killing possibly as many as 180,000.

1990s - American sanctions on Iraq are generally agreed to have killed hundreds of thousands, including half a million children under 5. When asked, American Ambassador to the UN Madeleine Albright claims that the deaths are “worth it”.

1993 - Yet another American-backed Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

1996 - American-backed Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

1997 - American-backed military coup in Turkey.

2000-2005 - Second Intifada, under which Israel kills 5000 Palestinians.

2001 - American invasion of Afghanistan, kills tens of thousands.

2001-now - American use of drones in declared and undeclared conflicts across the Middle East kills thousands. American kidnapping and torture of prisoners in numerous CIA blacksites and Guantanamo Bay victimizes tens of thousands, according to former aid to Colin Powell Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson.

2003 - American invasion of Iraq, kills at least 100,000 and possibly over a million.

2006 - Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

2008-9 - Israeli invasion of Lebanon and Gaza, thousands die.

And even more that I’ve forgotten. America supports dictatorships in the Middle East from Morocco to Afghanistan. Any time you wonder why Muslims hate America, just remember what America has done to them.

Reblogged without the hateful commentary. In addition, the attacks on/hatred of Muslim Americans are pretty awful too.
